7½ Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners

As part of the Learning 2.0 course, I have just watched a presentation called 7½ Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners. I think that the easiest habit for me would be #2: accept responsibility for your own learning. When I am interested in a topic, I will often search out as much information about it as possible, in many different formats. The hardest habit would be #4: have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner. I am easily frustrated and discouraged by my own shortcomings, and I find it difficult to overcome this when faced with a challenge.

As a compulsive reader and "Googler", I feel that I have the aptitude to be a life-long learner, if I can overcome #4.

  1. Don't worry too much about self confidence. You're not going to beat them all. Rely on point 7.5. It's the only one that matters... Note that women often make better learners than men because of their high ability as emotion. You may know that emotions are an effective "brain" marker; if you learn something while in the throes of emotions, you are more likely to remember it. Fun (joy, amusement) counts as an emotion. See the link? Get out and have FUN!
